TELEGRAM. The Governor of HongKong to the Secretary of State

for the Colonies.

In reply to your cypher telegram March 8th, the General Officer Commanding agrees that it will be sufficient to publish the following statement: "The situation at Singapore is normal;

all the rioters have surrendered.

stragglers in bush is proceeding. . Seventeen German prisoners escaped, six have been captured; the conduct of the remainder exemplary; excellent

services rendered by 36th Sikhs. Two rioters tried and shot"; adding detailed list of casualties.

Such publication would in my opinion be

useful.
